From Awareness to peace

Updated: Apr 29, 2024

Our thoughts can lead to fear, excitement, anxiety, jealousy, hope, etc. Do we just fall prey to all our thoughts and get pushed and pulled without having any choice? Where is our anchor?

The anchor is nowhere outside of us but it is within us. Just as we have thoughts, which push and pull us in all directions, we also have this higher awareness which can pay attention to the thoughts. With this higher awareness, we can now choose what thoughts we want to really entertain, and what thoughts we want to let go of.

When we become more aware of our thoughts, we may recognize that most of the time we may not want to entertain our thoughts. Now this awareness is always available to us. The moment we want to become aware, we can instantly become aware, but the problem is that we also quickly lose it again and again, and get carried away by our thoughts.

So the crux is to develop this ability to be more aware which is developed with mindfulness meditation practice. With this higher awareness, instead of letting our thoughts govern us, now we have a choice to look at our thoughts as bystander, and then decide what thoughts we want to let go of and be anchored into our awareness, to feel a sense of clarity to feel a sense of peace and ease. How often do you find time to meditate?
